Editors using social traction to assess whether or not the stuff is good enough to publish/commission.....
I HATE that!
The most thoughtful, engaged readers of “content” aren’t the ones rushing to add their tarnished .02, but the ones who read and internalize, thinking more deeply about how it affects their world. How do you measure that?
You can’t. The most valuable stuff is what we carry around in our heads. We’re measuring the wrong behaviors and being lulled into a false sense of knowing what motivates people to behave as they do. We’re coming to the wrong conclusions about who we are as a species and a community simply because we’re starting with the wrong assumptions and building them into the algorithms....
I don’t know how to fix that other than ignoring the social “engagements” and seeking out others who do as well... Roger Sterling was right... data is not the answer; meeting people, learning how to read them is.... can’t do that looking at and manipulating data.
